As a final project for our Global Sustainability class we have been tasked with making a contribution to the website zumer.com. What is Zumer? I thought you’d never ask! Quoted from their site:
Zumer is a facilitator of this growing consumer movement towards responsible buying, adopting a neutral role in designing the platform and seeding the information. Ultimately it is our community of users who research, rate, and drive the content in Zumer. Also unique to Zumer is the personalized filter that delivers customized rankings reflecting what is important to each individual user.
Basically Zumer is your one stop shop for company rankings on major global issues including: environmental responsibility, human rights, and sustainability. It is a way for you to make educated decisions with your purchasing habits. Zumer presents a score based on industry averages and individual company efforts that allowing you to decide if where you make your next purchase meets your standards. Zumer hopes that by providing the public with a ranking system it will encourage responsible purchasing decisions and in turn lead to changes in corporate behavior.
Our role in this innovative site, is to actually provide content on companies within the electronics industry. Personally, my group has been assigned Lexmark. Our research will use the company’s Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) as well as data from public institutions, news articles and NGO reports. Will provide details on selected GRI indicators for the company and enter them in to the online Zumer database. All documentation or links will be included. Each group member will then rank the company’s performance. After all the data is entered we will top it off with a ten minute presentation to our professor.
Zumer offers you the opportunity to provide your input directly to other consumers on issues that are important to you. If you want to become a part of it head to the site and sign up, or apply to MIM program and be ready come spring term.
